Britain Topic Home learning
We were delighted with all the wonderful pieces of home learning the children brought in. It was wonderful to see how many of them had been excited about our Britain topic especially the Great fire of London these have been displayed around the school. Thank you for your support with this as it really helps the children to extend their learning.
Over the Easter holidays please could you practise their phonics and spellings to help support them with their English work next half term. Please find attached the home learning for Easter.
Year 1 Phonic workshop 2019
Today we talked to parents about how we teach phonics at The Kents Hill academy. They were shown how we use action to help the children to say the sounds. We demonstrated how to play games and phonic activities with the children to help with their understanding of phonics. We discussed the phonic check the children have in June. We explained how it would run and what their children would be asked to do. All this information can be found on the phonics workshop power point below.
We have also put together some resources to help you support your child at home, we hope they are helpful. Thank you to all the parent who attended, remember if you have any questions don't hesitate in asking one of the Year One team.
Advent Mathematics Games
Throughout December we would like you all to practice your mathematics skills at home.
In this booklet there are lots of Mathematics games just involving dice that we would like you to have a go out. There are games for all ages so it might be that you want to have a go at all of them or you might choose one that is your favourite and keep practicing that game. Challenge an adult at home – can you beat them?
Can you design your own dice game for a bonus prize?
At the end of term we will present awards to all those who have practiced their maths games! Maybe play the game when you open your advent calendar.
We would love to see some pictures of you playing with family or friends, so feel free to bring them in.
Don’t forget to get someone to sign your record sheet to collect your award. You need to play and get it signed on a least 10 days to get an award.
Have fun playing the games!
Welcome to Year 1 2018
Watch this space we will be having an out of space experience this week.
Please ask you children about it on Tuesday.
This week the children had a big surprise. A space ship had crash landed in our playground over the weekend. The children were taken out to see the space ship on Monday and were told about the crash. The children had lots of questions about Where it had come from? Who was inside? What was is made from? How did it get through the atmosphere? Was Tim Peak inside? . The children wrote about their the events of the crash and wrote questions to ask the visitor. They especially enjoyed it when the space ship's lights flashed on and off to communicate with them.
They have been reading the story Alien love Underpants and have written their own stories based around the space ship landing. The children have enjoyed this magical experience and have learnt a lot more about planets, space travel and UFOs.
Quick reminder about the Space themed home learning. We have loved seeing so many pieces coming in already and it is great seeing how enthusiastic the children are about space. Please ensure that names are put on any project submissions so we can return them to you. Have fun with your children but remember it needs to be their work with you support!!!
Please find attached the homework grid on Space, we have tried to make it as fun as possible.
Please could we ask for homework to be in the week ending the 7th December.
Thanks for your support
