Safety Internet Day
What is Safer Internet Day?
Safer Internet Day is celebrated globally in February each year in over a hundred countries to promote the safe and positive use of digital technology for children and young people and inspire a national conversation. Coordinated in the UK by the UK Safer Internet Centre, the celebration sees hundreds of organisations get involved to help promote the safe, responsible and positive use of digital technology for children and young people. Safer Internet Day is a fantastic opportunity to reflect as a family about how you can use the internet and technology safely, responsibly and positively. Whether you are a parent, grandparent, foster carer, aunt, uncle or older sibling – we can all play a role in empowering children to enjoy their time safely online!
What messages are covered this Safer Internet Day?
This year in the UK, Safer Internet Day will encourage young people to explore how they manage their online identity, and how the internet shapes how they think of themselves and others. We want Safer Internet Day 2020 to celebrate difference and help us work towards creating a truly inclusive internet.
The campaign will focus on what makes up your online identity – such as the facts or characteristics about you, how others perceive and interact with you, as well as how online services identify you. It will also look at how offline stereotypes and discrimination are challenged or reinforced online. We will look at whether the internet allows young people to experiment and express themselves, or if they feel limited in who they can be online. By opening up conversations around online identity, we aim to inspire young people to support each other in being who they want to be.
Please find some useful information for you to use at home with your child.
Year 1 Phonic Resources to support your child.
We have recently assessed your child on their phonic test. We have put their scores in their reading records. Don't panic about their score they are still learning lots of the phase 5 phonemes. We will test them again several times before the test in June and keep you updated on their progress.
Please read with your child daily and practise blending words. Practise their phase 3 and 5 sounds with them at home. We have put together some resources to help you support your child with this at home, we hope they are helpful. You can download practise papers from https://www.sats-papers.co.uk/phonics-screening-test/ .

Advent Mathematics Games
Throughout December we would like you all to practice your mathematics skills at home.
In this booklet there are lots of Mathematics games just involving dice that we would like you to have a go out. There are games for all ages so it might be that you want to have a go at all of them or you might choose one that is your favourite and keep practicing that game. Challenge an adult at home – can you beat them?
Can you design your own dice game for a bonus prize?
At the end of term we will present awards to all those who have practiced their maths games! Maybe play the game when you open your advent calendar.
We would love to see some pictures of you playing with family or friends, so feel free to bring them in.
Don’t forget to get someone to sign your record sheet to collect your award. You need to play and get it signed on a least 10 days to get an award.
Have fun playing the games!
Welcome to Year 1 2018
Watch this space we will be having an out of space experience this week.
Please ask you children about it on Tuesday.
This week the children had a big surprise. A space ship had crash landed in our playground over the weekend. The children were taken out to see the space ship on Monday and were told about the crash. The children had lots of questions about Where it had come from? Who was inside? What was is made from? How did it get through the atmosphere? Was Tim Peak inside? . The children wrote about their the events of the crash and wrote questions to ask the visitor. They especially enjoyed it when the space ship's lights flashed on and off to communicate with them.
They have been reading the story Alien love Underpants and have written their own stories based around the space ship landing. The children have enjoyed this magical experience and have learnt a lot more about planets, space travel and UFOs.
Quick reminder about the Space themed home learning. We have loved seeing so many pieces coming in already and it is great seeing how enthusiastic the children are about space. Please ensure that names are put on any project submissions so we can return them to you. Have fun with your children but remember it needs to be their work with you support!!!
Please find attached the homework grid on Space, we have tried to make it as fun as possible.
Please could we ask for homework to be in the week ending the 7th December.
